College student needs to take her own advice

Abortion posters are misleading
The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) would have Americans believe that 47 million abortions have been performed in the United States since it was legalized in 1973. But I don't imagine that an organization with a political agenda like that of the NRLC keeps a statistician on staff, so I'm not inclined to trust its numbers.

.... I think it is safe to say that 47 million is a gross overestimation of the number of abortions performed in the United States over the last three decades.

So, I offer this suggestion to the Concerned Bowdoin Students: next time, before printing and posting an entire ream of paper's worth of propaganda, check your grammar and check your facts.

Note to Anya Trundy: Check your assumptions before you publish them. The most recent CDC data is current through 2002, and you can do the math here. And pay attention to the notes indicating which states -- including California -- which do not report to the CDC. The AGI explains the shortcomings of the CDC's data collection methods here.

Here a prolife organization put the CDC and AGI statistics next to each other. This makes it clear how much the CDC data is under-reported.

So, Ms. Trundy, take your own advice. Check your data before you make your assertions.
