Planned Parenthood stoops to a new low

Planned Parenthood Abortion Centers Lure Teens With iPods, Movie Tickets
San Francisco, CA (LifeNews.com) -- Teenagers in the United States are having abortions in fewer numbers than at any time since Roe v. Wade and are more pro-life than older Americans. That means fewer customers for Planned Parenthood, but the abortion business has come up with a corporate marketing plan to lure teens with free iPods and movie tickets.

Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, the center that gave teenager Holly Patterson the dangerous abortion drug that killed her, is leading the way with the new marketing scheme.

Anyone who makes an appointment at one of the eight PPGG centers before April 30, 2006, can enter to win an iPod.

A poster announcing another Planned Parenthood program, called "Tell-A-Friend," includes a photograph of a teenage girl whispering into the ear of another teen and telling. The text of the ad reads: 'Get free movie tickets? Yes. When you tell a friend about Planned Parenthood.'

....

In the tell a friend campaign, teens are asked to obtain a special card at a Planned Parenthood center or download one from their web site. The promoter gets two free movie passes redeemable at any United Artist theater and the friend receives $10 off her first visit.

Is this what our kids need? Abortion clinics using marketing ploys to drum up business among teenagers?

A lot of work for a tiny line of text

I've found a nice piece of java script that will produce a random snippet with a link every time a page loads. I'm busy now entering the information on the abortion deaths I know about. So far I'm up to number 210, Mary Ann Page. My scrollbar is halfway down the Cemetery of Choice.

I'd be glad to give copies of the script away after I'm finished -- though that will involve going in and inserting appropriate URL information for off-site linking. Yikes!

If you're interested, shoot me an email and I'll send you the file when I'm done. All you'll have to do is paste the entire huge chunk of code into your web page.

We need to get the word out: Laws don't kill women. Abortionists do. Of all the deaths I've researched, not a single woman was killed by a legislator wielding a pen.

Is your congresscritter backing Holly's Law?

PA NOW Chapter Happy to have Quack Abortionist in Town

Pennsylvania Abortion Business Will Reopen After Medical License Suspended
Erie, PA (LifeNews.com) -- A Pennsylvania abortion business in this northwestern city will reopen after being closed since last April following the suspension of the abortion practitioner's medical license.

Harvey Brookman had his medical license suspended after he was charged with unprofessional conduct and negligence. A Yardley, Pennsylvania resident, he was unable to practice medicine for six months.

......

The abortion practitioner had worked at the American Women's Services abortion business in Erie from the time it opened in September of 2003. He also worked at an abortion facility in the Philadelphia suburb of King of Prussia.

Brookman was charged by the state with practicing without malpractice insurance, giving expired drugs to patients, permitting unlicensed staff to administer drugs, failing to check his patients' age and identity, and conducting abortions without a licensed registered nurse present.

Attorneys with the state re-filed an amended list of seven disciplinary charges against the abortionist. The latest charge of professional misconduct notes Brookman perforated a teenager's uterus and colon during an abortion at the King of Prussia facility. Brookman faced a lawsuit filed by the girl.

Now we get to the real meat of the matter. I'm putting this in bold and italics because it warrants close attention.
The local chapter of the pro-abortion National Organization of Women told AP it was glad the abortion business will reopen. Otherwise, women from the area would have to drive to Pittsburgh or Cleveland for abortions.

In other words, better to have a dangerous quack scrape you out than to either travel or (gasp!) have a baby. How can these activists even pretend that they care about women's safety and well-being? All they seem to care about it abortion being common and convenient.

Let's keep reading:
Brookman also worked for two years as an "independent contractor physician
' at the State College Medical Services abortion business in State College.

In other words, he was working for Steve Brigham, who is such a quack that he voluntarily surrendered his Pennsylvania license in order to keep the medical board from investigating him.
The abortion practitioner became the target of a state inquiry after Centre County Citizens Concerned for Human Life, a pro-life group, filed complaints with the state Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs and the state Department of Health.

Why are pro-life organizations the ones that have to put the time and effort into keeping the state apprised of quackery in abortion? Why aren't the self-proclaimed protecters of women's lives and health doing this?

Let's look more closely at Brookman.
He surrendered his New Jersey license in 1996. The same year, New York revoked his license. Pennsylvania initially suspended his license in 1995.

According to the New York Department of Health, Brookman routinely examined the uteruses of pregnant women without a medical reason. He was also found guilty of maintaining inadequate patient records and altering others.

And NOW is glad to have him in town! Do they do diddly-squat to warn women of this guy's background? Or do they just look the other way and allow women to trust this guy?

Betrayal, betrayal, betrayal. Why aren't prochoice citizens massively outraged over this?

For more on Brookman, see Pennsylvania abortionist in trouble, which includes links to get PDFs of disciplinary documents on Brookman.

Susan B. Anthony List launches this year's fund-raising

Pro-Life Women's Group's Endorsements Challenge Pro-Abortion Orgs
The Susan B. Anthony List has released its first round of Congressional endorsements and will kick off the campaign with a dinner gala tonight on Capitol Hill.

Despite being vastly outspent by pro-abortion groups last time around, the SBA List backed more winning candidates than EMILY's List or Planned Parenthood.

Some eighty percent of the candidates the SBA List endorsed last election cycle won.

"We have every intention of using the 2006 elections to increase the number of pro-life seats in Congress and the number of pro-life women in politics," said SBA List Candidate Fund president Marjorie Dannenfelser.

"In addition to financially backing these candidates, we'll be running independent expenditure campaigns to mobilize pro-life women voters in several states including Pennsylvania, Florida and Minnesota," she added.

Pennsylvania! My home! I have to get in touch with them!
SBA List is supporting twelve pro-life women in Congress that it has helped elected over the last 12 years. They include some women with safe seats such as North Carolina Rep. Sue Myrick, Rep. Melissa Hart of Pennsylvania and Florida Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

Others like Rep. Jean Schmidt in Ohio and Rep. Anne Northup in Kentucky have faced stiff challenges.

SBA List is also backing Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker-Knoll in Pennsylvania and open sat Congressional candidates Sharron Angle in Nevada and Michele Bachmann in Minnesota.

Huh.... I've been away for a long time. I'd thought Baker-Knoll was an abortion supporter. Is my brain fried, or did she change her stand? I'll have to investigate that one.
Never one to back down from a challenge, the SBA List has sometimes endorsed pro-life men facing tough races against women receiving the backing of the nation's leading pro-abortion groups.

Dick DeVos, a pro-life Republican candidate taking on pro-abortion Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm, and Peter Roskam, who is running for the seat vacated by the retiring Henry Hyde, will have the SBA List's support.

Rep. Jim Ryun in Kansas also enjoys the group's backing.

The article goes on to compare the SBA list to pro-abortion PACs.
Through its members, Emily's List donated $11 million to pro-abortion candidates in 2004 and raised more than $30 million to fund its own grassroots activities.

But the pro-abortion money didn't necessarily transfer into success.

Emily's List managed to elect only 39% of the candidates it supported in 2004 despite outspending the SBA List by an 8.5 to 1 margin.

SBA List candidates defeated six candidates endorsed by Emily's List, 15 who had the backing of Planned Parenthood, five who had support from NARAL, 11 who were supported by NOW's PAC and 11 who received endorsements from the Women's Candidate Fund.

"Our success rate shows that the pro-life issue is a winning issue," SBA List director Jennifer Bingham told LifeNews.com.

Or it could just be that hardcore abortion advocacy is a losing issue.

Somebody's idea of a perfect world

My choice, His life: Which abortion package would you like, the economy or the lunch hour special?
No I am not joking, these are actual 'types' of abortion proposed by a 'forward thinking woman'. While it seems these are not her currant practice, this is the ways she wishes the abortion 'market' to go.

How about a world with no abortions? But I guess there'd be no fun in that.

At least you could still read it when the vandal was through

Abortion Watch Blog Archive - Pro-life Ad Defaced on DC Bus:
The poster ... shows a young woman's face aside the wording: "Roe v. Reality, #4, Myth: Everyone agrees Roe v. Wade is good constitutional law. Fact: Even pro-choice legal scholars admit its reasoning is suspect." The scribbler scratched out the word "Fact" and replaced it with "False" and then went on to write "Keep Government OUT of Your Doctor's Office."

What's my objection? To begin with, it's vandalism. The bishops paid to print that poster and purchase the advertisement space inside the bus to display it. Secondly, this juvenile behavior demeans the debate, lowering it from an adult discussion to bathroom stall scribbling. And that's not even mentioning the vandal's ridiculous statement about keeping "government out of your doctor's office" We invite government to regulate and monitor healthcare and medicine in many ways, and rightfully so.

Another blow struck for tolerance and diversity!

The only choice is abortion

Pro-Life Ads on Ontario Buses Vandalized by Abortion Supporters
Two pro-life advertisements on city buses in Guelph, Ontario were vandalized last week. The ads, depicting a 19-week-old fetus with the caption 'this is a child not a choice' and offering the phone number of a local crisis pregnancy centre, were defaced with black spray-paint. The phone number was blotted out and the word 'CHOICE' was sprawled over the ad.

And then they wonder why we think they're pro-abortion rather than pro-choice. As soon as you offer a choice other than abortion, their panties knot up.

Common sense and compassion win another round

WTOL-TV Toledo, OH: Governor to Sign Bill That Bans "Wrongful Birth" Lawsuits
Governor Bob Taft intends to sign into law a ban on medical malpractice lawsuits that claim a severely disabled child would have been aborted if the underlying genetic disorder had been diagnosed before birth, his spokesman said. Only a handful of other states have similar bans.

The law won't be comprehensive, however, because parents still could sue saying they wouldn't have aborted, but a correct diagnosis would have allowed them to prepare emotionally and financially for the child, said professors who specialize in medial ethics.

I'd call it comprehensive -- it gives parents rights to prepare for the birth of a child, but not the right to snuff him because they don't think he's good enough. Kids aren't consumer goods!

Paragons of compassion would let your kid croak to save their house pets

ChildFree Hardcore :: Moral debates...again
I would like to make this statement somewhere where I know I'm not going to get flamed for it (unless we have breeder trolls here):Given the choice between saving my pet from a fire and saving some stranger's baby, you bet I'm going to save my pet. This does not make me a bad person, it simply means random children are worth less to me than my beloved animal.

I wonder if they'd think that other people were still "good people" if they walked past them to save a bowl of goldfish from a house fire.

Two anniversaries: One illegal, one legal

On March 28, 1942, 19-year-old Cleo Florence Moore died at New Rochelle Hospital in New York from peritonitis from an illegal abortion.

Upon admission, Cleo told authorities that she had taken some pills to induce the abortion, but before her death she changed her story and said that Dr. Frank F. Marino had performed the fatal abortion.

According to Cleo's roommate, Alice Petersen, Cleo met a man through her work, and discovered that she was pregnant in January. On March 5, Cleo visited Marino to arrange an abortion, which he performed at his home office on March 9.

By March 11, Cleo was ill and summoned Marino, who sent her to the hospital with instructions not to inform anyone that he had operated on her. Alice also said that Dr. Marino's wife told her to protect her husband, lest 'you and Miss Moore...go to prison.'

Marino testified that he had examined Cleo on March 5, refused the requested abortion, and did not hear from Cleo again until the 11th, when he was summoned to her home and sent her to the hospital without reporting the abortion.

Marino, who had been a member of the County Board of Supervisors, the New Rochelle Board of Education, and the New Rochelle Zoning Board of Appeals, was also a golfing buddy of the prosecutor of the case. Marino was acquitted.

On March 25, 1975, 18-year-old Sharon Floyd went to Associated Concern in Chicago for an abortion. Three days later, she died of pelvic infection and blood poisoning.

On July 1, 1975, public health officials closed Associated Concern, which was one of the abortion mills featured in the Chicago Sun-Times "Abortion Profiteers" series.

Updates, mostly unsought abortions

I've gone through my files and pulled together a few unsought abortions. While I was at it, I wrote up background on two of the generous fellows who exercised this right to choose on behalf of their unsuspecting patients: Ulrich Klopfer and Steven Weber.

Recent searches

Somebody was seeking teens who got abortions and are not happy stories. Two good resources are Teens and Abortion and Teens Killed by Abortion.

Some folks were seeking 23 week fetus. Twenty-three weeks is just the very end of the second trimester. Here's information on a 22-week fetus. from The Visible Embryo. More information on the 23-week fetus is available here. And here is a cute ultrasound of a 23-week fetus. This article indicates that babies born at 23 weeks have a 10-35% survival rate. Boys are more fragile than girls, so a little girl of this age has a better chance of survival. The standard technique for aborting a 23-week fetus would be Dilation and Evacuation.

Somebody was searching for malachy dehenre. DeHenre was responsible for the death of Leigh Ann Alford.

Somebody wanted information on self abortion. Well, this is something I certainly don't recommend. Here are cases where self-induced abortions were fatal. Estimates were that self-induced abortions accounted for between 2% and 8% of pre-legalization abortions, and they persist to this day. Research indicates that clearly dangerous self-induced abortions may be linked to mental illness. Others, such as herbal abortions, are attractive to women who place high value on "natural" or "self-determination" options in all areas of their lives.

Somebody was searching for George Tiller + 1st trimester Abortion. Tiller is more widely known for late abortions, such as the one that cost Christin Gilbert (pictured) her life. But he's not too proud. He's as willing to kill the tiny ones as the bigger ones. One woman, in fact, filed suit against Tiller, alleging that he lied to her at the behest of her boyfriend in order to trick her into an unwanted first-trimester abortion.

Someone wanted information about Hoa Thuy Tran Vivian Coroner P. M. Murphy. I don't know about the coroner, but Hoa Thuy Tran, who went by the name Vivian, was one of the women to die recently from chemical abortion in southern California.

Anniversary: Clara Bell Duvall, Self-Induced Abortion Death

According to the National Organization for Women web site, Clara Bell Duvall was a 32-year-old married mother of five, aged 6 months to 12 years. She and her family were living with her parents in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania due to financial problems. NOW says that Clara attempted a self-induced abortion with a knitting needle. Though she was seriously ill and severe pain, NOW says, Clara's doctor delayed hospitalizing her for several weeks. Her death, at a Catholic hospital on March 27, 1929, was attributed to pneumonia.

I'd welcome any verifying information on Mrs. Duvall's death. After all, NOW also claims that Becky Bell died from complications of an illegal abortion, when in fact she died of pneumonia concurrent with a miscarriage. (There was no evidence that Becky's pregnancy had been tampered with in any way.) But if people who think abortion is a good idea want to blame Clara's death on abortion, I'll let them claim her as somebody their ideology killed."

Why do I hate abortion so much?

Back when I was a Guide at About.com, Sierra Mist raised some provocative questions in the Forum.

Why does abortion have such a big place in your life?

In a nutshell, because I have a low betrayal tolerance. Abortion, especially as practiced in the United States, involves so much betrayal on so many levels, it's impossible for me to ignore:
  • Mothers are supposed to protect their children, not sign their death warrants; by choosing abortion, a woman betrays the profound trust a child must be able to have in his or her mother.
  • Doctors are supposed to preserve life, not destroy it; by participating in abortion, doctors are betraying the trust their youngest and most helpless patients should be able to have in them.
  • Doctors are supposed to do no harm to their patients; by participating in abortion, they are ignoring the overall well-being of their patients and instead prostituting their skills and betraying the doctor/patient relationship with the mother. Abortion facilities operate in an atmosphere that promises information and counseling to women, but it is standard operating procedure to withhold vital information, and common to lie in order to facilitate abortions; this is a betrayal of the trust women should be able to place in organizations that purport to exist for their benefit.
  • Communities owe it to their smallest and weakest members to protect them; by supporting abortion, communities betray this responsibility to the youngest among us.
  • The scientific community is supposed to pursue knowledge; abortion supporters use the patina of science to promote politics, at the cost of women's well-being and the lives of unborn children. This is a betrayal of the public trust.
  • Prochoice organizations present themselves to the public as the vanguards of women's health, safety, and well-being; however, they betray the public trust by putting politics and the promotion of abortion above the needs of the very women they supposedly exist to protect.

If abortion was illegal again, would that fix the problems that lead to women seeking abortions? If not, how do we begin to fix all those problems?

The biggest thing leading women to seek abortions is the normal ambivalance of early pregnancy. We can't make that go away, any more than we can make toddlers stop going through the "terrible twos." We need to teach women that this ambivalence is normal and self-limiting.

What could we all be doing right now that would help women not need abortions?

The most important thing would be to address the myth that abortion is a need. Panic and rejection of the pregnancy are normal in early pregnancy. Our job is to educate women about the fact that this early panic and rejection are normal and self-limiting.

I think just taking the focus off the idea of abortion and turning the woman's attention to addressing any concerns she has about having the baby would do most of what is needed in terms of focusing resources on the woman's real needs, whatever they may be.

If you think making abortion illegal would solve the problem of abortion itself, ask yourself:
~Will women who would otherwise abort really care about the life inside them?

Since rejection is normal in early pregnancy, there's every reason to think that they'd adapt, like everybody else. The advantage of recriminalization is that there's be nobody hovering like a vulture waiting to tell her that the feelings are abnormal and cash in on her fears by selling her an abortion.

~Would they bring into this world a healthy baby?

No more or less likely than any other woman.

~Would they find other means of aborting?

Some no doubt would. The question is whether we build our communities to pander to the minority who persist in wanting their fetuses dead, or whether we build our communities to support the vast majority of women who don't really want abortions but who might feel trapped into them if abortion is presented as the normal response to early pregnancy stress.

~Will those women die trying to illegally abort?

Some will, just as some die from legal abortions. The female body is designed to protect the fetus, and abortion is a violent assault on the female body. I'd prefer a situation in which only those women who have a genuine, persistent enthusiasm for the idea of an abortion are subjected to the risks.

~Would the lives of those dead women mean anything to you? If those women did not abort, and had the baby, and even kept the baby, what kind of mother's would they make towards the children they did not want?

This question is loaded with unquestioned assumptions: that criminalization is throwing huge risks at hapless women, that early rejection of the pregnancy means that the woman would reject the baby, that an unwanted pregnancy means an unwanted baby. There's no evidence that any of these assumptions is true.

~If they had the baby and it was unhealthy, because of the woman not caring about it, who would take care of it?

Again, this question contains the unquestioned assumption that legal abortion improves the quality of prenatal care sought by those women who do carry to term. There's no evidence of that. There's no reason to believe that recriminalizing abortion would reduce the amount of prenatal care women would seek. Actually, I'd bet that eliminating the idea of spending early pregnancy deciding whether or not to abort would get women into prenatal care earlier, and improve the health of both mothers and babies.

Abusive husbands push for abortions in Ghana, too

Tabloid News of Friday, 24 March 2006
An attempt by a 28-year-old woman, Asibi Asuang, to abort a 3-month-old pregnancy after her husband's threat to eject her from their matrimonial home, has led to her untimely death in Bawku.

Now, should we just have made it easy for the husband to bully her into a "safe-n-legal" abortion, or do we need to build a society where women can escape men like that. Or -- best of all -- a world where women wouldn't be involved with abusive men to begin with because they know how to spot and avoid them, and they know in their hearts that the deserve better in the first place.

More cluelessness

Coral in Australia - I just had to post this...

It's a snotty cartoon. Excuse me, fetus-haters, but saying, "Don't do this one thing" does not equal, "I must make all your choices for you."

After all, it's not like laws against rape are there because we want the government to make all men's choices. We just want no men choosing rape.

(Are they really this dumb? Or do they think it's cute to pretend, "Don't kill babies" equals "We don't think you can make any choices"?)

An oldie but goodie

Frederica.com - Writings - Beyond "It's a Baby"
But most pro-choicers I've met, by far the majority, have been distressed, saddened, and deeply ambivalent about abortion. I recall the black woman at an Oregon college who, the week before my visit, had organized a NARAL rally. Yet during our question period she confessed that she wasn't really in favor of abortion, even thought that it was generally a bad thing, but necessary because 'If I got pregnant, nobody would adopt my baby.' This is not only false - babies of every color are adopted quickly - it is sad, and reveals the loneliness and fear of abandonment that lies behind many abortions. 'Nobody wants my baby' has echoes of 'Nobody wants me.'

Other messages we feed women to sell them abortions is "You're so bad, a baby would be better off dead than living with you as a mother."
The prevalence of this pro-choice ambivalence may be best illustrated by the travels of an analogy I wrote a few years ago: 'There is tremendous sadness, loneliness in the cry, "A woman's right to choose." No one wants an abortion as she wants an ice cream cone or a Porsche. She wants an abortion as an animal, caught in a trap, wants to gnaw off its own leg.'

I was surprised that this line was widely quoted, but more surprised at where it appeared: Ellen Goodman's column, the Pro-Choice Network Newsletter, boxed 'Quote of the Week'on the front of Planned Parenthood's Public Affairs Action Letter. The only explanation is that I'd stumbled on a suppressed truth; when brought to light, these tend to explode. The truth, which our pro-choice friends know too well, is this: abortion hurts.

Amen.

And if even most prochoice people realize this, why are we still doing it? And why are women settling for it?

Clueless 101

shigella: Sliding down the razor blade of life.
I remember one afternoon, sitting on a lawn at my college campus. Across the street were 100 small wooden crosses pounded into the ground outside the Commons. Anti-abortion protesters had set up a silent protest on the lawn of the Christian campus.

How brave, I thought, to protest something that the majority of the campus undoubtedly is against anyway. It puzzled me at first. And it made me cry.

A virgin at 20, I had never had to face the issue before. But I understood the heartless side of this campaign, the easy protest to pound stakes into the ground and walk away. What if there were silent women walking around the campus, seeing this mockery of a graveyard that screamed judgement at anyone faced with that choice?

I was embarrassed for my own school and for the lack of compassion I saw on a Christian campus. This might make some people leave the school, walk away from the church and even turn their back on people with whom they disagree. I decided to stay; it's easier to spread kindness from the inside. I argue a lot for compassion these days, mostly with Christians (ironically).

Why not direct this anger at the snake-oil salesmen who cashed in on women's fear and despair and left them so fragile that they can't walk past a few crosses without being crushed?

Why is it that the abortionist does the damage, and the prolifers get the blame?

Tennessee to Require DNA From Abortions - Yahoo! News

Tennessee to Require DNA From Abortions - Yahoo! News
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Doctors performing abortions on girls younger than 13 years old would be required to preserve a sample of the fetal tissue for law enforcement under a bill passed by the Senate on Thursday.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation could use those samples for DNA tests to help prosecute rapists, said Sen. Roy Herron, the bill's sponsor.

'Whoever has sex with a child 12 years of age or younger is committing rape, whether force is involved or not, and they ought to be prosecuted,' he said.
Herron said most of these rapes are committed by those who know the victim, often go unreported, and are not discovered until days, weeks or months later.
The 'Child Rape Protection Act of 2006' passed on a 29-0 vote. A companion bill has lingered in a House subcommittee for a month and is not scheduled for discussion until April 4.

Possibly because this law doesn't stand between the abortionist and his fee, PP isn't fighting it.
The bill would require records be kept of the names and residence of the victim and parent or guardian. A doctor who violates the proposed rules would face a $500 civil penalty for the first violation, a $1,000 civil penalty for the second, and a misdemeanor for the third.

Anybody who fails to comply -- and who fails to report the rape -- ought to be prosecuted as an accomplice.

Another victory for ethically acceptable stem-cells!

The Angel Lai Story: From Deaths's Door To A Normal Four-year-old :: Stem Cells :: Diabetologica
With world news media focused on violence, disasters, conflict and other similar 'newsworthy' events, it's always nice to hear of a meaningful and heartwarming story that almost every family can identify with - the survival of a child against certain death. Even better, when it involves a life-saving medical procedure.

When Angel Lai was just six month's old her health was going downhill fast with advanced leukaemia that had taken her little body to death's door in less than a month. In fact, doctors had given her less than a 10 per cent chance of survival. At the time, her frantic parents were on the verge of loosing their only daughter.

Then two things happened that would eventually save Angel's life: Her mom conceived a second child; and, a doctor told her mom about cord blood stem cell transplants.

Paul Harvey displays ignorance

Stem Cell Therapy for Heart Disease: Stem Cell Heart Therapy Featured on the Paul Harvey 'Noon News' Show

In his commentary on Don Ho's recent treatment using adult stem-cells, Harvey said:
Don Ho ... heard of stem cell research which promised to rejuvenate ailing hearts, to rejuvenate heart muscle with injections of stem cells culled from the patient’s own blood.

But that’s a procedure not allowed in the United States, where stem cell research is limited by religious constraint.

Can he be this ignorant? It's the very "religious" folks in the US who are pushing for adult stem-cell research! I have no clue why this guy can't do his stem-cell treatments in the US, but it has zilch to do with any opposition from anybody "religious", unless the "religion" in question is abortion.

I mean, 10 out of 10 for pointing out that Don Ho is getting well thanks to stem-cell treatment. But minus several million for the mean-spirited and needless slander of those of us who are, after all, the strongest backers of this sort of treatment -- adult stem-cell treatment!

Justice for Christin? Tiller held accountable?

Operation Rescue - Blog Archive - Tiller Grand Jury Petitions To Be Submitted April 7

Wichita, KS -- Signatures demanding the convening of a Grand Jury to investigate George R. Tiller in the third-trimester abortion death of Christin Gilbert will be presented to Sedgwick County, KS after a Petition Presentation Ceremony that will be held at noon at the Sedgwick County Administration Building on Friday, April 7.

....

The State of Kansas allows citizens to convene a Grand Jury to investigate wrong-doing through a petition process. By law, the county will have 60 days after the required signatures are submitted to convene the Grand Jury.

.... The group maintains that Tiller's large campaign contributions to pro-abortion politicians, including Democratic Governor Kathleen Sebelius, has bought Tiller cover with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts, a Board whose Executive Director, Larry Buening, is a Sebelius appointee. The KSBHA refused to discipline Tiller for Christin Gilbert's death in spite of an autopsy report that indicates Tiller was at fault and 911 documents that indicate his employee, Marguerite Reed, tried to cover up the true nature of Christin's fatal condition.

.... More information about Christin Gilbert's tragic death and the Grand Jury effort, including photos and public documents obtained by Operation Rescue investigators http://justiceforchristin.com.

And Vital Signs Blog summarizes the latest Zogby poll. Abortionists' Rights evidently are not as popular with voters as hardcore Democratic leaders wish they were. Fancy that! Even prochoice Democrats think that women are entitled to information, and parents ought to be involved in kids' lives!
  • Anniversary: Ilene Eagen, Illegal Abortion Death

On March 21, 1947, Ilene Eagen was brought to Mankato, Minnesota, to the dental office of W. A. Groebner for an abortion. Court records indicate that Ilene was pressured into the abortion by her boyfriend, Raymond Older, who refused to marry her and threatened her with bodily harm if she refused an abortion.

After the abortion, Ilene became violently ill and lost consciousness. Groebner and Older failed to seek or provide properly care for the sick woman. Instead, Older took Ilene to his service station in Granada, Minnesota and kept her there through the remaineder of the night, into the morning of March 22.

Older allowed Ilene to languish without medical care. She died March 24.

Ilene left a seven-year-old daughter motherless.

Older tried to escape civil liability on the grounds that despite his refusal to marry her, and the threats, Ilene had consented to the abortion and that therefore she was responsible for her own sickness and subsequent death.

Source: 227 Minn. 154, 34 N.W.2d 700; Supreme Court of Minnesota. True v. Older et al.No. 34682.Nov. 19, 1948. Action by Helen J. True, special administratix of the estate of Ilene Eagen, deceased, against Raymond Older and another for wrongful death

Prolifers will do well to remember that although recriminalization will make forced and coerced abortion riskier for the scumbag man, it won't be enough to eliminate the problem. Our current efforts to eliminate forced and coerced abortions need to include approaches that will continue to be effective even after legal protection is restored to the unborn child.

    Does anybody have information handy?

Tialoc, a new abortion-advocacy regular here, insists that because a gestating embryo doesn't digest its own food, it's not an organism, it's just tissue. (I guess when Ashli was getting TPN, she wasn't an organism!)

Does anybody have any clear scientific site that could help Tialoc learn the difference between tissue and an organism? His background, he says, is in physics, so he ought to be able to grasp science.

(This is right up with the folks who say a fetus isn't alive. If you can kill it, it's alive! If it's dead, removing it isn't an abortion. Duh.)

Jonathan Rosenblum: Truth seekers and partisans --- The feat of elevating reason over emotion

Read this excellent piece on how emotions govern how we all tend to process information. How does one overcome this?

    2 Corinthians and "Common Ground"

2 Corinthians 6:14 is a popular scripture hurled about against prolifers working at all with prochoicers on any sort of "common ground" effort:
Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? or what communion hath light with darkness?

    Let's read it in context:
14 Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? or what communion hath light with darkness? 15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what portion hath a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement hath a temple of God with idols? for we are a temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore Come ye out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, And touch no unclean thing; And I will receive you,

Let's look at some Bible commentary.
John Gill's Exposition of the Bible has some comments:
This seems to be an allusion to the law in (Deuteronomy 22:10) and to be a mystical explanation of it; and is to be understood not as forbidding civil society and converse with unbelievers; for this is impracticable, then must believers needs go out of the world; this the many natural and civil relations subsisting among men make absolutely necessary; and in many cases is both lawful and laudable, especially when there is any opportunity or likelihood of doing them any service in a spiritual way:

So it does not mean not to associate in any way with unbelievers, and it would especially not forbid doing good works with them. Why not fight abortion hand-in-hand with prochoicers who want to see abortion reduced or restricted?
    rather, if any particular thing is referred to, it is to joining with unbelievers in acts of idolatry; since one of the apostle's arguments to dissuade from being unequally yoked with unbelievers is, "what agreement hath the temple of God with idols?" and from the foregoing epistle it looks as if some in this church had joined with them in such practices; see (1 Corinthians 10:14,20-22) . But I rather think that these words are a dissuasive in general, from having any fellowship with unbelievers in anything sinful and criminal, whether in worship or in conversation;

Seems like it's pretty self-evident: Don't join unbelievers in evil-doing. And I've not seen any "common ground" efforts that involve prolifers in any way promoting, facilitating, or even condoning abortion. So, looking at Gill's commentary, there's no reason not to join with unbelievers in good works -- nor even to join in good works with people who have vast areas of sin in their lives. We're just not to join them in sin.

We can also look at People's New Testament:
14-18. Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers. The figure is drawn from the prohibition of Deut. 22:10 and Lev. 19:19. The meaning is that Christians are not to pair off with unbelievers. All intimate associations are forbidden. The primary reference is to intermarriage and to association in heathen festivals. All close fellowship with unbelievers is included. Saints should choose Christian alliances and associations.

This indicates that the idea of being "yoked with" the unbelievers is to enter into close partnership with them, such as marriage or in their festivals. But there's nothing here to forbid doing good works with an unbeliever.

The issue seems to be the reason for associating with the unbelievers. After all, you have to get close enough to them to preach the Gospel in the first place!

I think many people confuse "common ground" with compromise. And I've never espoused compromise.

Amerindian woman to PP: Come kill our children!

Indianz.Com > News > Giago: Oglala Sioux president on state abortion law
The President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation, Cecilia Fire Thunder, was incensed. A former nurse and healthcare giver she was very angry that a state body made up mostly of white males, would make such a stupid law against women.

Yeah, a law that respects women's life-giving ability is "against women."
"To me, it is now a question of sovereignty," she said to me last week. "I will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on my own land which is within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation where the State of South Dakota has absolutely no jurisdiction."

Though this could just be the kind of business savvy that has casinos and tax-free cigarettes on Indian lands. Sell vices to the White people. Because otherwise this woman has serious self-esteem issues: "Please, PP, come kill our babies! We're unfit to be mothers!"

Stem Cell Research: They Just Don't Get It

Stem Cell Research: They Just Don't Get It

The folks supporting use of fetuses and embryos for research sound ghoulishly reminiscent of a crude joke that was circulating some years back:

    Q. What did Jeffrey Dahmer say to Lorena Bobbitt?
    A. You gonna eat that?

Have we really backslidden as a society to where we look at our own and say, 'You're not gonna throw that away, are you?' Half a century ago the Germans embraced the idea of recycling human beings. Why stop at just organs and stem cells, if we're going to treat our young and our dead like empty milk cartons? Why let Uncle George go into the ground with all that gold in his teeth? And what about the other parts of the body that will just go to waste if we stick them in a coffin and bury them? If human beings are just one more waste material to be recycled, why not make soap and lamp shades?

In fact, why stop there? Proponents of cannibalizing human dead insist that abortion is necessary because many of the world's people are hungry. Soylent Green, anyone?

Taboos develop for a reason. The taboo against cannibalism no doubt protects weaker people during times of famine from being harvested as food for the stronger. We need to reawaken our taboo against treating our fellows -- living and dead -- as if they exist merely for our use and convenience.

Human organ transplants have already led to horriffic abuses, including poor people from developing countries selling their kidneys to rich people from so-called 'civilized' countries.

Once we embrace the 'Waste not, want not' attitude toward the human unborn, what's next? To what lengths might a poor mother be driven when wealthy Westerners are willing to pay her for producing ... ahem ... sources of stem cells? If we continue down this road, look for the day when women in developing countries are turned into fetus farms, embryos into a cash crop.

There are promising developments with adult stem cells, as well as with cord blood. It's not necessary to treat our fellow human beings like so many junked cars.

    Anniversary: Lynn McNair, Abortion Death

    Lynn McNair
was 23 weeks pregnant when she was injected with saline by Dr. Edward Rubin at Jewish Memorial Hospital. The first injection of saline failed to kill the fetus, so Lynn was given a second injection. After this second dose, Lynn went into contractions and slipped into a coma. She died March 23, 1979 of a pulmonary embolism of amniotic fluid, leaving two children motherless. ('Fatal Pulmonary Embolism During Legal Induced Abortion in the United States from 1972-1985, Lawson, et. al., American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Vol. 162, No. 4, April 1990, p. 986-990; New York County (NY) Supreme Court Docket No. 4492-81)

New Jersey horror - Sex slaves, forced abortion, infanticide

Covenant News Wire Service: 'Enforcer' testifies on slave ring's forced abortions
EWARK -- A Honduran woman pleaded guilty to being an "enforcer" in a slave labor ring that smuggled girls as young as 14 into the country and used threats of violence to force them to work in North Hudson bars.

Xochil Nectalina Rosales Martinez, 29, also had been smuggled into this country and forced to work in one of the bars, but was later told she was in charge of running the Guttenberg apartment the ring used as a safehouse.

She said she was told that if "any of these bitches get out of line, you should beat them." She said she also was present when the girls and women were forced to have abortions if they became pregnant, and saw one of the women give birth to a baby that died soon after.

    ....

Rosales Martinez cried as she recalled how the women were forced to take abortion-inducing pills so they could continue working.

Despite the pills, Rosales Martinez said, a 21-year-old woman gave birth to a live baby in a toilet bowl.

"Did you hear it cry when it was pulled from the toilet?" Assistant U.S. Attorney Deborah J. Gannett asked.

    "Si," Rosales Martinez replied, weeping.

Abortion masks symptoms, leads to death

Shirley Hollis, a 30-year-old mother of two, had an abortion performed by Bruce Lucero on February 22, 1991. Shortly after she went home, she was short of breath, had pain in her arms, and was vomiting. Her boyfriend called the clinic and was told to bring her to the emergency room. Shirley wanted to wait, thinking the symptoms were related to the abortion and would go away on their own.

Shortly afterward, Shirley had a heart attack, and her boyfriend called 911 and started CPR. The ambulance took shirley to the hospital, where she died.

The autopsy found that Shirley had severe coronary artery disease, which had never been diagnosed. Shirley's mother faulted Lucero with Shirley's death because he failed to detect her heart problem when he examined her at the abortion facility. Although the abortion did not directly cause Shirley's death, I list her as an abortion death because her belief that the abortion was causing her symptoms led her to delay seeking appropriate medical care that would have saved her life.

    Ah, tolerance and diversity!

As long as you think exactly like me!
Pro-life advocates have tried 10 times to keep an advertisement they've taken out on a bus bench in a highly trafficked area of time from being vandalized. Abortion activists keep hitting it again and again.
A local pro-life group rented the bus bench three weeks ago and various pro-life message continue to be vandalized.

Abortion advocates spray painted over one slogan saying “Women deserve better than abortion,” and they have scratched off others.

    Yup. Tolerance and diversity.

More Scriptural reflections on associating with prochoicers

    1 Corinthians 5:9-13
9 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with immoral men; 10 not at all meaning the immoral of this world, or the greedy and robbers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. 11 But rather I wrote to you not to associate with any one who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or robber--not even to eat with such a one."

This seems to indicate that as long at the prochoicer is an unbeliever, we're in the clear working with them, but if they profess to be Christians, we're not to associate with them.

    1 Corinthians 10:27
If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience.

This would certainly indicate that there's no prohibition against fraternizing with unbelievers -- even idolators! After all, if we refuse to associate with them, how are we to bring the Gospel to them?

I'm also looking, but can't find, the admonition to think the best of people. It's in one of the Pauline epistles, isn't it?

    Nominate bizarre stuff

I'm updating the Believe it or Not! page. The stuff has to be at least tangentially relevant to abortion, and has to be something that leaves most people either going, "What?!?!?!" or "You made that up!"

    Examples:

Amputee Wannabe Information. Hey! Your body, your choice, right?

They Said WHAT?! A collection of bizarre or just rude quotes from abortion advocates, such as "you say kids should be allowed to be born to a bad environment, does that mean a woman can have one just to torture it? if i was forced to have one i would i would not be nice to it, maybe put it to bed with a plastic bag and hope for the best or throw it in a trash can or maybe use it as a pinata. but that would be much kinder than an abortion, huh"

Unborn Child: A pro-abortion fetus poem that includes, I kid you not, these lines: "Blessed / by experiencing / my mother's wisdom and femininity... / Rocked in the womb. // Reassuring my mother. / I never chose to be born this time. / Her choice is perfect - reflecting my own."

    The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

Any nominations? I've decided to open this up to loony-tune anti-abortion stuff as well. Might as well acknowledge it.

    New resource for "fetal indications"

Prenatal Partners for Life helps families that learn that their unborn baby is ailing, and helps them to carry on for their child.

There is also a Siblings page that has many beautiful stories and can encourage parents who wonder what impact an ailing or diabled baby will have on their other children.

There is a Second thoughts page with the story of a woman who aborted for "fetal indications" and quickly came to regret that choice. There are more stories out there, and I'm sure they'll be added as women submit them.

They have an excellent page of Links as well.

Yesterday's blog entry: How the MSM covers abortion

Yesterday was the anniversary of the day the nurse from Lawson Akpolunu's abortion clinic reported him to the medical board. (I couldn't blog about it yesterday because Blogger was giving me fits.)

Read the story of how we offered Diane Sawyer a scoop on this story, and how she utterly dismissed it. Then tell me the MSM are neutral or even remotely responsible when it comes to reporting on abortion.

Some pro-lifers make me wanna puke

Over at the Pro-Life Views Delphi forum, there crouch quite a few of that creepy species of troll. Not internet trolls. Old-fashioned, crouch-under-a-bridge, make-sure-that-only-those-you-deem-worthy-are-allowed-to-pass Trolls.

Tonight I've lost my patience with them. Again.

One of them sneers at "common ground" efforts, citing Scriptures about not being yoked with unbelievers. Well, nobody was saying that we have to marry prochoicers. Duh! But why not allow them to participate in activities that reduce the number of abortions, or even spare a particular woman the trauma of abortion? The trolls can cite Scripture (as can Satan). But Lord, have mercy! How the darkness pours out of them!

Another world-class smartass replied to a post on a Muslim convert to Christianity who is being condemned to death. This troll actually postulates that this hideous persecution is an example of the kind of "common ground" I advocate!

Another little bundle of love contemplates gleefully, "WWJD?" Not "What would Jesus do?" but Who Would Jesus Damn?

Right now, I'm managing to be glad that they're at least not in leadership positions. But how I hate it when I look around me and my heart cries out, "God, help me! I'm surrounded by 'Christians'!"

It's a lot easier to be patient with abortion advocates, because by and large most of them don't commit blasphemy. Their rhetorical sins are against logic, not against Christ Himself.

    Sigh.

God calls us to reach out to those in the darkness:

    Matthew 9:13
Go and learn what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.' For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

    Luke 15:7
Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

    Matthew 9:10
And as he sat at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples.

    Mark 2:17
And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

And this, the most straightforward and to the point:

    Matthew 23
13 "But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor allow those who would enter to go in." .... 23 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice and mercy and faith; these you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. 24 You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel! 25 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you cleanse the outside of the cup and of the plate, but inside they are full of extortion and rapacity. 26 You blind Pharisee! first cleanse the inside of the cup and of the plate, that the outside also may be clean. 27 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. 28 So you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity."

Trolls keep people from even approaching the door, much less walking through! They stand with sharpened sticks, poking away anybody who tries to even approach Jesus!

How many Christians have been won to the Kingdom, as I was, by the love of those who let me close while I was yet wallowing gleefully in my own sin? And is my sin any worse than that of anybody else? There are, after all, Ten Commandments, and they're not ranked. Bearing false witness is right up there with murder.

How I hate when somebody picks one sin -- abortion and homosexuality are popular ones right now -- and acts as if that sin is the only sin, and that since they, themselves, do not indulge in that sin, they have no sin!

    Mark 7:6
And he said to them, "Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.'"

When I stand before my Maker, I hope that I don't have a slew of lost souls that I drove away from Christ because I didn't think they were good enough. Even as His people did for me, I'll do for others. And if the trolls don't like it:

    Matthew 5:11-12
11 "Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you."

Hit me with your best shot!

Updated Who's Who, and added David Sopher

I've updated the Who's Who page, and added an entry on Dr. David Sopher, the British abortionist who invented the Sopher forceps.

Look at the picture. Those are medical instruments invented for the express purpose of taking apart a second-trimester baby in-utero, by a guy with so much experience doing so that he decided he needed a specialized tool for doing the job. I think that's something even prochoicers gotta find a tad creepy. What thought process went into inventing these things? "Gosh, they wriggle their little legs right out of these forceps! I need something with a serrated head that they can't squirm out of."

I'm currently reading Bernard Nathanson's The Hand of God, and will be adding pages to the RealChoice web site as I find interesting tidbits, such as Nathanson's recounting of one of Sopher's marathon late abortion sessions.

And I'm open to suggestions for folks to add to Who's Who. Please give me a name and a URL.

    NARAL kindly provides a resource

I've added a banner to my sidebar for it. It's the State Bill Tracker:

"Keep up to date with what your state legislators are doing to further restrict or protect the right to choose."

Allow me to complete the sentence:

Keep up to date with what your state legislators are doing to further restrict or protect the right to choose death for your unborn child.

Of course, there's nothing to impede our using this resource to protect the same women and children that NARAL is trying to leave at the mercy of the neighborhood abortionist!

    Thanks, NARAL!

Man converts after seeing "Baby Malachi" pictures

HT: this thread at Pro-Life Views (Warning - VERY GRAPHIC LINKS):
Once again Baby Malachi lived up to his name!

Last Saturday, a young man drove by the clinic and saw the graphic signs exposing what goes on behind the clinic doors. He drove home, grabbed his child and sobbed. His wife Tanya drove out to the clinic to see for herself what was going on. Tanya told me that her husband was pro-choice, until today. The witness of what happened to the babies, broke his heart, and turned it to his children. When he got home, he ran to hug his baby, and wept openly over him.

The story of how Baby Malachi came into prolife hands is told online here, and in Norma McCorvey's book, Won By Love:
The name Malachi literally means my messenger. Rhonda couldn't wait to share what God had revealed to her. God was going to use Malachi to be a messenger to His church, to our nation, and to the world. Yes, Malachi would reveal the truth that abortion is murder, and that we must speak for those who, like Malachi, cannot speak for themselves. I reminded her of the last verse in the last book of the Old Testament: "He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers…." Malachi 4:6.

The photographer who took the photos used to work with me at Life Dynamics. I got the feeling he wanted to let Baby Malachi do the speaking.

C-FAM reports progress for women, families in developing countries

Samantha Singson: Commission on the Status of Women Deletes Abortion-Inclusive Language in Agreed Conclusions
    (Emphasis mine):
As the 50th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) met for its closing ceremony last Friday, delegates were uncertain whether a set of Agreed Conclusions would be adopted. Negotiations went down to the wire as delegates struggled to come to consensus on the contentious health section of the draft text.

The original draft of the Agreed Conclusions' section on women's health focused almost solely on 'sexual and reproductive health services and rights.' As the Friday Fax has reported in the past, pro-abortion advocates have tried to establish a so-called international human right to abortion on demand using this terminology.

The European Union, joined by Turkey, Canada, New Zealand and Norway, fought to keep the focus on sexual and reproductive health by referencing the reported 500,000 maternal deaths every year.

Note: This is used as leverage to try to push for abortion, rather than to push for sanitation, potable water, better nutrition and the other factors that have been proven elsewhere to virtually eradicate maternal mortality.
As negotiations wore on, many states expressed mounting frustration at the narrow focus on the sexual and reproductive health of women. Costa Rica, Egypt, the United States, Pakistan, El Salvador, Nigeria, Syria and Sudan were among those countries calling for the Commission to address women's health in a more comprehensive way, bearing in mind the myriad of health concerns faced by women throughout the course of their lives. Much to the consternation of delegates, the draft Agreed Conclusions contained no references to the top causes of death of women in the developing world, namely malaria and tuberculosis.

Again, the nations most in need of basic health care have to fight tooth and nail to get wealthy nations to drop the focus on abortion and address basic needs.
The NGO Pro-Life and Pro-Family Coalition presented statistics on the major causes of death of women and girls that were released by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2002's World Health Report. The Report attributed only 1.9 percent of women's deaths on maternal conditions. As stated in a fact sheet distributed to UN delegates by members of the pro-life and pro-family coalition, fully 89 percent of deaths of women and girls are attributable to causes unrelated to sexual and reproductive health.

Yes -- causes that could be addressed with sanitation, potable water, decent nutrition and the like.
The fact sheet caused an immediate stir among negotiators, forcing states to begin discussion on the other health care needs of women. At the end of the conference, consensus was finally reached on the Agreed Conclusions and the resulting health paragraph looked nothing like the original draft. In the end, reproductive health language was largely muted in the document, while a broader understanding of the health needs of women was included.

asexualashley evidently worries a lot about the ramifications of sex a lot for somebody who's asexual:
everyone needs to write to their representatives and let them know that a ban on abortion is jeopardizing the basic reproductive rights of women and taking away the right to choose - a freedom i am very proud to have, thank you. the dominoes are falling people. first south dakota, now mississippi.

Ooooh! Scary! To think -- some women don't love abortion as much as the enlightened New York and West Coast types! Perish the thought that in some states, women actually prefer live babies to dead fetuses!

Nevertheless, everybody, regardless of their degree of enthusiasm for abortion, needs must write and voice support for fetus-slaughter!

Seems asexualashley doesn't even want to let others have a choice of opinions, much less a choice to give birth rather than get scraped out!

    Breathingroom lovesWomen's Bodies, Women's Wisdom:
    She writes:
"When a woman chooses to have an abortion on behalf of her self and her own life, she is swimming against a five-thousand-year-old tide of conditioning, of social agendas propounded by churches and other male-dominated institutions, that say that woman's primary purpose is to have children and serve her children and her husband. Allowing women to choose the course of their own lives goes very deeply against a very old grain."

    Later, she asks,
"Can you reframe the abortion in your mind as an act of courage - an act of reclaiming your power? For some women, the choice of an abortion is a celebration on behalf of self."

I guess I should have warned you to have an emesis basin handy. So much for the old prochoice canard that no woman has any actual enthusiasm for abortion. Oh, no! They only do it as an act of need!!! They NEEEEEEED to "celebrate" their selves.

Got a serious "ick factor" going there.

And in case you thought this was the most putrid argument that could possibly be put forth to celebrate fetus-slaughter, she has yet another post:
"Abortion deliberately ends one potential life. But not allowing an abortion potentially murders two lives. The bond between mother and child is the most intimate bond in human experience. In this most primary of human relationships, love, welcome, and receptivity should be present in abundance. Forcing a woman a woman to bear and raise a child against her will is therefore an act of violence. It constricts and degrades the mother-child bond and sows the seeds of hatred rather than love."

Gosh, what greater violence can you do to the mother-child bond than to allow the fetus to gestate? Everybody just knows that abortion sanctifies the mother-child bond!

Do you need drugs to have thoughts this addle-pated, or is mere feminazi indoctrination sufficient? I swear, this must be the deranged result of a really bad acid trip. I've heard stoners put forth theories with more solid intellectual underpinning. I myself took an exchange between Robin Hood and Friar Tuck from Howard Pyle's The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood as an example of non-Euclidian geometry in my undergrad days -- and that was a cutting-edge example of clarity of thought compared to the tripe this woman is spouting.

Tell me it's drugs. Because I'd hate to think that some people are this muddled when their minds are as clear as they ever get.

And it's contageous! The tao of kat posts the same drivel. Verbatim.

We have more of the typical Oh I'll never go to nasty old South Dakota as long as I live posts. As if you'd ever go there anyway! People who love abortion that much aren't big on Mt. Rushmore. Stick on the coasts, where everybody you know thinks just like you and you don't need to ever have your assumptions challenged.

Let's take a break from the logic-impaired, shall we? Right-Wing Nation supplies a burst of common sense:
All you liberals out there! You're fond of content-free little soundbytes that you can put on your protest signs, but stop trying to use them as arguments. They're not. ....

    His first example:
    It's not a child!

Then what is it? A cheetoh? A grape? A penguin? Of course it's a child, and calling it a fetus doesn't change that. Drop this, because this is the number one, most idiotic Leftist Screaming Point. If you want to make a case for abortion, fine, but this is not even a point worth consideration.

I remember the Lefties used to go to protest at a pigeon-shoot. I proposed a simple solution: Change the name of the event to the "Fetus Shoot." Attach the name "fetus" to the targets, and no amount of preening, cooing, or flapping would enable the Loony Lefties to see a pigeon.

Fresh, new thoughts come out of Trad/Con Musings:
Who is Betsey Kaufman? What was her job, and with whom did she fight?

Betsey Kaufman kills babies. Not directly, mind you. Only indirectly, from behind her desk or from a speaker's podium, but she does so defiantly and proudly. Betsey Kaufman for eighteen years was CEO of Planned Parenthood of Cleveland, an abortion mill.

I would never have heard of the courageous Betsey, and would never have had the opportunity to share with you my admiration for her, except for a column by the sycophantic Ms Schultz. Think you that "sycophantic" is too strong?

Read it yourself. If you're in the mood for a feisty skewering.

A reminder of the "black box" warning for abortion drugs

In the wake of the news of two additional chemical abortion deaths, now would be a good time to remind everybody of the "black box" warning the FDA puts on the first of the two drugs, methotrexate:
Methotrexate should be used only by physicians whose knowledge and experience includes the use of antimetabolite therapy.

I wonder how many abortionists fit that criterion.
Because of the possibility of serious toxic reactions, the patient should be informed by the physician of the risks involved and should be under a physician's constant supervision.

Again, I wonder. How many abortionists who pass this stuff out like Halloween candy are warning the patients of what the FDA says about this drug? And "Here's your pills. Have a nice life!" doesn't seem like the kind of supervision the FDA had in mind. These quacks aren't even having the women come in for a check-up before giving them the misoprostol, the way the FDA recommends.
Deaths have been reported with the use of methotrexate in the treatment of [certain diseases].

And in the "treatment" of pregnancy, which only a true abortion fanatic can consider a "disease."
Methotrexate use whould be restricted to patients with severe, recalcitrant, disabling disease, which is not adequately responsive to other forms of therapy....

So, I guess to these guys, pregnancy is a "severe, recalcitrant, disabling disease." One can hardly call something that clears up on its own in nine months or less "recalcitrant."

So, judge for yourselves how responsibly the abortionists are passing out this drug.

    Anniversary: Magnolia Thomas, Abortion Death

Magnolia Reed Thomas was a 35-year-old mother of two when she went to Hedd Surgi-Center in Chicago for an abortion.

The abortion was performed by Rudolph Moragne on February 19, 1986.

Moragne failed to note that the fetus was growing in Magnolia's fallopian tube, rather than in her uterus. After Magnolia was discharged from the clinic, the undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy ruptured, and Magnolia was rushed to the hospital.

There, doctors did everything they could to save her, but she died from blood loss and shock on February 19, 1986.

This was Magnolia's third abortion. Multiple abortions are a known risk factor for ectopic pregnancy.

Even though, in theory, women who choose abortion should be less likely to die of ectopic pregnancy complications, experiences shows that they're actually more likely to die, due to sloppy practices by abortion practitioners.

Let's get the issue into the open

Achromic is my main resident pro-choice commenter, and she brings up things that, because they come from one of my beloved regulars, I can't just brush off as, "That's purely the prochoicers' problem." And what I'm about to tackle, I'm tackling now because achromic brought it up. Achromic, thank you for holding my feet to the fire.

We do know that one assertion by the abortion advocates is partially true. Though fewer women will get pregnant in untenable situations if abortion isn't readily available, some will still do so after re-criminalization. This is no doubt doubly true given the current "You're a real weirdo if you're over 16 and not having sex with somebody" societal norm.

Of those women who continue to get pregnant in untenable situations, there will be some that persist in seeking out abortions even though it's been re-criminalized.

Granted, just reducing the overall number of unintended pregnancies is a good, as is reducing the overall number of abortions. But it's callous to just cop a "Devil take the hindmost" attitude toward the few who will pursue abortion even after it's criminalized again. No matter how cold-hearted they may be at the time they're seeking out abortions, their lives are of just as great a value as the lives of those who don't get pregnant, and of those who reject abortion.

But research done by Nancy Howell Lee and others prior to Roe showed us that the mere perception that abortion is a normal activity, one chosen by the woman's peers, is enough to tip the balance in many women. Just the perception that others like her choose abortion will tip the scales for some women who are casting about for what to do about their pregnancies. So that means that two options are closed to us:

    1. Openly taking action that "makes abortion safe." If we're going to obvious trouble to make it safe, we're making it normal.
    2. Simply allowing the abortion advocates to deal with vulnerable women. They'll work hard to re-normalize abortion if we give them a chance. And if they achieve that, what have we accomplished? We've still abandoned women and children to those who have for some reason made abortion their cause in life.

How do we then eliminate legal abortion without allowing the cancer of criminal abortion to establish itself in the vacuum?

We have to make sure that there's not enough of a vacuum.

Whatever we do is going to have to make it abundantly clear that abortion is not normative, and not an acceptable option.

We will also have to make it clear that the responsibility for the well-being of those seeking out illegal abortion lies squarely on the heads of the people promoting and facilitating it. And I think that this is a big chunk of where the pro-life movement failed last time. We allowed the people who were killing and maiming women with the practice of illegal abortions to blame us for the deaths. And we can't afford to let that happen again.

I'm not saying I have the answers as to how to achieve these ends. I'm just saying that we need to achieve them.

    So, to clarify:

    1. We must clearly establish that though the idea of bailing out of a pregnancy is normal, this idea passes. We need to get out the information about the normal psychology of pregnancy. We need to get out the information that just because you think you're not ready doesn't mean that you really aren't ready. We need to make it clear that following through on the idea of bailing is what's abnormal. Abortion needs to be marginalized, to be clearly the act of a woman who isn't thinking clearly, who is acting out on a temporary but normal panic that is familiar to most women, and certainly well known to physicians who deal daily with pregnant women.

    2. We need to make it very clear that abortion is hurtful to mothers, babies, families, and everybody who cares about them. The Silent No More movement is doing a very good job on this, but everybody needs to pitch in.

    3. We need to make it abundandly clear that every woman who dies of a botched abortion is dying at the hands of a prochoicer. Every abortion death is a needless death, because every person near the pregnant woman has the wherewithal to help her get past the normal ambivalence of early pregnancy. Anybody who facilitates an abortion is acting out of either ignorance or some motive of their own -- be it financial, political, or social. These people need to have 100% of the blame fall on their heads starting right now.

So! Thoughts on where to go from here? Reducing the number of abortions to the bare minimum that normal human evil allows will go far to limit the carnage. And adding the burden of shame and humiliation to the legal sanctions against those who hurt women with abortion will add to their motivations to keep the women they abort as sound and whole as something as hideous as abortion will allow. But how do we achieve this?

Verified: The two latest chemical abortion deaths were PP patients

Birth Story links to a New York Times aritlce that says, "The two most recent deaths and two of the previous four underwent their procedures at Planned Parenthood clinics, a spokeswoman said."

So four of the seven currently known RU-486 deaths were women who'd been given their drugs at PP. The other two PP victims were Holly Patterson and Vivian Tran. (Chanelle Bryant and Oriane Shevin got their fatal chemicals at National Abortion Federation facilities; Brenda Vise got hers at an illegally-operating abortion mill in Tennessee.)

A day late and a dollar short on RU-486

BREITBART.COM - Two Women Die After Using Abortion Pill
Two more women have died after using the abortion pill RU-486, regulators said Friday in a warning that brought renewed calls for pulling the controversial drug from the market. The organization that provided the pill to the two women said it would immediately stop disregarding the approved instructions for the pill's use.

The earlier deaths evidently weren't serious enough to get "the organization" to stop playing Russian roulette with patients' lives.

This little snippet also tells us that both women got their drugs at the same place. And since the news reports refer to it as an "organization" rather than a clinic, I'm thinking it might be Planned Parenthood at work again. We shall see.

    Two more deaths after RU-486

    US News Article | Reuters.com
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two new deaths have been reported after women took the abortion pill known as RU-486 but officials do not know if the fatalities are connected to the drug, U.S. regulators said on Friday.'At this time we are investigating all circumstances associated with these cases and are not able to confirm the causes of death,' the Food and Drug Administration said in an advisory to the public.
